Happy Māori Language Week - spider web learning experiences

Kia ora whānau,  Happy Māori Language week!  Kei te pēhea koutou? How are you? Another week into Level 4 lockdown and we hope this post finds you all safe and well.

The weather has been quite gloomy lately, so trying these spider web activities in the comfort of your home will not only keep your whānau busy in all the fun, but are great problem solving and gross/fine motor learning experiences.

Spider web maze

You can use strings, yarn, or rolled party streamers to create your maze.  It also a great activity for introducing or re-visiting words like 'over' and 'under'.  Putting the word to the action. In te reo: 'over' - 'runga' and 'under' - 'raro'.

Or if your tamariki enjoys exploring using their hands and developing their fine motor skills.  This version would be more appropriate.

We look forward to hearing or seeing how these ideas went for you. Please do feel free to send us an email or post of what you are up to.  We miss you all so much.  Please keep safe and always remember to be kind! Ka kite anō!

Aroha nui from all your teachers at Westglade.
