Thursday 16th September 2021 - getting creative

Happy Māori Language Week - spider web learning experiences

Kia ora whānau,  Happy Māori Language week!  Kei te pēhea koutou? How are you? Another week into Level 4 lockdown and we hope this post finds you all safe and well.

The weather has been quite gloomy lately, so trying these spider web activities in the comfort of your home will not only keep your whānau busy in all the fun, but are great problem solving and gross/fine motor learning experiences.

Spider web maze

You can use strings, yarn, or rolled party streamers to create your maze.  It also a great activity for introducing or re-visiting words like 'over' and 'under'.  Putting the word to the action. In te reo: 'over' - 'runga' and 'under' - 'raro'.

Spider web discovery basket

Or if your tamariki enjoys exploring using their hands and developing their fine motor skills.  This version would be more appropriate.

We look forward to hearing or seeing how these ideas went for you. Please do feel free to send us an email or post of what you are up to.  We miss you all so much.  Please keep safe and always remember to be kind! Ka kite anō!

Aroha nui from all your teachers at Westglade.

13 September 2021 - Lemon Sensory Water Play

    Happy Monday Everyone !

We would like to share with you one of the great ways to make use of our senses.  Our tamariki love to taste, smell and feel.  This activity will enhance the motor skills development of the child through lifting, and pouring, while actions such as squeezing help to develop the small muscles in a child's hands.  Mathematical concepts such as weight, volume, heavy and light, colours and shapes will also be learned.

Have Fun !  The Westglade Team

Things we need :

Fresh lemons, small containers, ladle spoon

leaves, rocks, assorted shades of food colouring (optional), petals

8 September 2021 - Building a Fort

Happy Wednesday to all !

Fort is a wonderful secret place for the children to read and play.  It is a place that best suit to them and allows them to experience different roles.

In building a fort we can make use of our blankets.

Today, it will be a special place to spend with our children.

Have fun!

Stay safe and Sound.

Morena whānau! - fun outdoor activities.

Morena whānau!

Hope you all had an awesome weekend and not forgetting a wonderful celebration with our fathers on Father's day.

It is such a wonderful day to go out and about and make the most of the sun while it lasts. Here are a few fun activities that you can try out with your whānau.

Make water play more exciting with water balloons. A great exploration and problem solving learning experience. And to top it off, its actually really fun!

You can keep busy with painting with water. Great outdoor activity for hand-eye coordination and help in development of gross motor skills.

Or if you want to add colour, you can try painting with chalk paint. Easy clean up.

We look forward to seeing how you go with these ideas or seeing what you have in stock this week. Please feel free to post on your individual bloggers or email us through.  We miss you all so much and looking forward to hearing from you.

Be safe and take care whānau!

Aroha nui from all your teachers at Westglade.
